Branding Is Cruel

In this article on the evolution of branding, Akhil Agarwal takes us back 4000 years to the beginning. Branding starts from Ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt or wherever, where Livestocks were engraved by hot iron to differentiate from others. Irons were called “Branding Irons”. Even criminals, slaves and people were branded to claim ownership. The so called “Brands” were at the owner’s discretion. 4000 years back, the process of creating differentiators started. Cruel, but every evolution always starts with a cruel story.

Today, in the era of “Revolutionized” marketing & branding, the process of branding is to make people perceive you, your organization and your product as superior and matching their buying behavior.

In today’s global marketplace and at its lightning-fast rate of change, there’s no point in inventing and presenting a product only to sit back and hope that consumers everywhere will discover its greatness.
