Bringing Humanity to Business and Business to Humanity
Tech entrepreneur, Julie Hanna was 5 when she and her schoolmates had to avoid bullet shots as they fled from their classroom. Life as a refugee of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict placed Julie and her family in a position of poverty. But never once did she see herself as a victim.
The success of her company, Kiva, runs behind this same principle. Kiva provides an opportunity for substantial investment and micro-lending to entrepreneurs in low-income countries. Kiva does not perform charity. It forges equitable business partnerships that ignite independent sustainability and more importantly, dignity.
iB Perspective:
Breaking market barriers in entrepreneurship requires breaking through our own societal barriers. Julie’s story is an inspired movement of how business engagement restores dignity and potential to the human being.
