The most creative person in business is…
After seeing Fast Company’s list of the 1oo Most Creative People in Business, we felt inspired. So we asked our Director of Mojofication, Bix Bickson, who would you nominate as the most creative person in business? Here is his answer:
The person reading this.
What distinguishes us as human beings is, we can create. The question is how to tap, access, express our creativity.
Listening to Leen Zevenbergen at a recent conference talking about becoming CEO of a 20,000 person international business in Switzerland. He knew he had to send a signal to everyone in the company to spark them to their own creativity. He found a small desk and two chairs, came to work early and put the desk and chairs into the elevator, sitting behind the desk. When the employees came to work the elevator door opened, people looked in with a shocked expression and said ‘excuse me’ backing away. He invited them in to sit down at the desk and ride the elevator to their floor.
How long did it take for everyone to get to their own desks and write emails to almost everyone in the company about the new CEO in the elevator?
Each of us has this capacity to create. The ‘world’ keeps trying to convince us of something else.
Monster.com bet their proverbial farm on one superbowl ad which showed young children saying:
“When I grow up I want to:
File all day…claw my way up to middle management…be replaced on a whim…brown nose…be a yes man, yes sir, coming sir…underappreciated…forced into early retirement…..ending with What do you want to be? Monster.com”
It worked. Why? Too close to the truth. Most management is addicted to control. Take the most creative species on the planet and control them…hmmm. The person reading this I nominate as the most creative person in business.
