The ChangeMaker Curriculum
It has been four years since the global economic collapse in the fall of 2008. With the dawn of the USA election, we are reminded of what exactly happened those short years ago. Lehman Brothers bankrupt. AIG nearly collapsed if not for the bailout. The (sort-of) rescue of Bear Stearns and, heck, all of Wall Street in general. The American government reacted to failing banks by providing billions of dollars in TARP money to stabilize the banking system. The government was forced to bail out a system that was fueled by risk, greed, incompetency, and a blatant lack of regulation.
Fast forward to today, it seems the global economy has hardly improved. Job numbers are bleak. Entire neighbourhoods in America are abandoned, their houses owned by some quagmire of offshore mortgage portfolios. The quest for profit at all costs has borne an unexpected toll on what was once the greatest economy in the world. Corporations whose only goal is to generate profit for shareholders fuel the greed and scarcity mentality. And the results are crystal clear: economic turmoil and collapse.
I believe that capitalism can work as a system and that free markets are the only way to provide total prosperity for citizens of a country. I also believe that unfettered capitalism has proven itself, as in America, exploitative and devastating. My quest, in that light, is to merge the addition of positive societal benefit into the heart of the corporate mandate. I believe that corporations should be measured equally based on their positive contribution to society as well as their profit to shareholders.
Institute B has a mandate of proving to the world that by incorporating societal benefits as an equal priority to generating profits, more abundance will be created for shareholders and stakeholders alike. We work with our partner companies to help them grow by embedding generosity into their supply chain, being conscious of positive societal contribution, and being environmentally sensitivity. If our companies can become wildly financially successful while being positive contributors, they can be a beacon for all corporations.
As an incubator and accelerator of for-profit, social impact corporations, our reach is only so far. We can impact and contribute to our 7 partner companies through our incubation. To fulfill our mandate, however, we need to extend our reach. This is where the institute B ontology curriculum (iBOC) comes in.
The iBOC is a curriculum we have developed to engage with corporate leaders of the world and enroll them in the possibility that there is a better way of participating in capitalism. Our first series, called the ChangeMaker Series, is a pathway to developing a corporate culture of audacious results. One where we highlight the benefits of choosing generosity as a core value and living in abundance at all supply chain touchpoints.
Corporate leaders engaged in the iBOC ChangeMaker Series will seek first to be the change they want to see in their leadership teams and corporations. They will understand, at a fundamental level, that they are responsible for their organizations’ culture.
To be a ChangeMaker means that under your leadership positive values drive your organization. These values can only be perpetuated if your organization actually delivers both financial and societal results. This is at the heart of the iBOC curriculum. Audacious results for the right reasons for the right stakeholders.
Join us on this journey.
